Dr. Fabio Galasso heads the Sensors Department at OSRAM in Germany. The R&D interests of the group involve computer vision and multimodal computing, in relation to smart lighting applications. Specific activities regard the 3D recognition of people and tracking, the reconstruction and recognition of 3D scenes and the estimation of lighting.

Fabio is a former associate of the Max Planck Institute for Informatics and the University of Cambridge, where he researched video analysis, patter learning from videos, segmentation and clustering, towards the understanding of dynamic scenes.

Fabio read Electrical Engineering and Signal Processing for Telecommunications at RomaTre University in Rome and graduated (UK and US equivalent: Master's Degree) cum laude (with honours). Then, he joined the Department of Engineering and St. John's College in Cambridge for a PhD on Shape-from-Texture, focusing on the spectral analysis of homogeneous textures and the 3D-shape reconstruction.

Before and after his Master's Degree, he gained experience as a Researcher in the Ericsson Laboratories and as a Project Engineer in Telecom Italia. In his career, he has been involved in consulting work relating to computer vision.

Fabio is passionate about new ideas and transforming them into products.
